The Gophers softball team ended its season Saturday after losing two of three games to Iowa. Minnesota finished with an overall record of 31-22 (10-14 Big Ten).

The Gophers lost the first game of the series 1-0 in eight innings Friday despite a strong pitching performance from ace Sara Moulton. They managed just two hits off Iowa’s Kayla Massey. The game’s only run was unearned — Iowa’s first batter in the top of the eighth, Johnnie Dowling, reached first base on a dropped third strike and advanced to second on a throwing error. She scored on a single.

Minnesota took the second game of the series 4-1 behind another strong performance by Moulton. Second baseman Erika Smyth hit a two-run home run in the second inning, and the Gophers got RBIs from first baseman Alex Davis and left fielder Erica Meyer in the fifth and six innings, respectively. 

They fell in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader 5-4. The Gophers jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings but fell behind when Iowa hit a grand slam in the fourth inning, and they couldn’t regain a lead in their last game of the season.
