A desktop computer and a skill saw were stolen from a trailer belonging to Mortenson Construction Friday night, according to a police report. The burglary occurred across from the TCF Bank Stadium construction site in front of the McGuire Translational Research building , where Mortenson is currently working on a separate project. The perpetrator entered the trailer by prying the sliding window open and removing the screen, according to the police report. University police Lt. Troy Buhta said that construction trailers are more apt to being burglarized because most sites do not have security systems in place after working hours. âÄúThey are just kind of left out there,âÄù Buhta said. âÄúThey are pretty easy pickings.âÄù Mortenson utilizes surveillance equipment on several of its job sites, but did not have cameras in place on the trailer that was burglarized. Most of their trailers are not equipped with video or alarm systems, and since the burglary occurred on a weekend, the crime was not discovered until the next day. Buhta could not recall any other burglaries occurring on or around the stadium site, but did indicate that several of MortensonâÄôs job sites had fallen victim to vandalism in the past.
