A new app from Preserve Minneapolis offers a historical tour of Minneapolis’ first neighborhood.
Minneapolis Historical includes tours of the Marcy-Holmes and Old Highland neighborhoods. The tours are told through stories, which go as far back as 1849, and include audio commentary from 27 residents.
The Marcy-Holmes tour, developed with the Marcy Holmes Neighborhood Association, includes 24 historical sites, such as houses and mills along the river.
The neighborhood, founded as Saint Anthony Falls, traces its origins to the 1850’s. The tours were largely created from local author Penny Petersen’s book, “Hiding in Plain Sight: Minneapolis’ First Neighborhood.”
