In the Jan. 31 Minnesota Daily, something struck me about the story âÄúKaler calls for outside review of UâÄôs AHC.âÄù Did anyone else find it concerning that âÄúThe review will be conducted this spring by a small committee chaired by Dr. Ken Kaushansky, Stony Brook UniversityâÄôs senior vice president for Health Sciences and dean of its medical schoolâÄù? Stony Brook University is where President Eric Kaler worked before coming to the University of Minnesota.
Whose decision was it to have this particular committee do this very important review, which I assume should be totally objective?
I would think that the last place that the chair of the committee should be employed is at the very school where Kaler was last employed. They may know each other well âÄî might be good buddies âÄî so wouldnâÄôt that be a âÄúconflict of interestâÄù issue?
