John Legend just nailed it

The national anthem at sporting events can be the source of much trouble for some performers and has a stormy history.  All too often great voices are left displaying their range in annoying warbles, losing all the syllables in the process.  That is in addition to people falling, forgetting the words and other faux pas.

At this year’s NBA All-Star Game, nine-time Grammy winner John Legend took half court with calm and grace and proceeded to sing a simple, crisp version of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”  Given the flashy nature of the All-Star Weekend, this bit of sheer professionalism and humility was a nice reality check.
