The University of Minnesota Medical School Department of Pharmacology celebrates 100 successful years with the end of 2013, a University Medical School news release stated.
To honor the 100th year after its founding in 1913, the Department of Pharmacology held a celebratory dinner, a symposium and a poster session by students on Dec. 5 and 6, 2013, according to the news release. The department also partnered with the University of Minnesota foundation to fund Centennial Scholars.
“It is exciting to be at the beginning of a second century of pharmacological research that builds on our past strengths,” Jill Siegfried, Ph.D., fifth head of the department and first female Head of Pharmacology told University Medical School News.
The department has graduated 332 doctoral students, including one Nobel Laureate, according to the department’s website, and produced many leaders in the fields of academic medicine and pharmacology.
