UPDATE: SUSPECT IN GRADUATE HOTEL STANDOFF IS IN CUSTODY, POLICE SAY (1:43 p.m.)
Two loud explosions were seen and heard at 1:09 p.m. inside the sixth-floor window where the suspect in the Graduate Hotel standoff is currently holed up. At 1:38 p.m., a third explosion was heard.
Calls of, “You are under arrest” were heard from police inside the hotel minutes after the first two explosions. In the moments after the explosions, the man walked out onto the ledge of the window which was previously broken.
After standing upright on the window ledge for several minutes, some of which were spent on his phone, he climbed back into the room. At 1:30 p.m., he was seen outside on the window again.
The standoff with the man started midnight Sunday when police tried to serve an arrest warrant for an Arizona-based nonviolent felony. Late last night, a woman who was also in the hotel room for much of the negotiation was let go and has reportedly been talking with investigators.
The situation has lasted for over 37 hours.
The woman who left the room is now speaking with investigators as of 9:15 p.m. Monday and is safe, according to University spokesperson Chuck Tombarge. Police are still talking with a man on the sixth floor of the hotel who police say refused to leave the room after they attempted to serve an arrest warrant against him for an Arizona-based white-collar felony.
