Minnesota Daily named 2011 Newspaper Pacemaker

The Minnesota Daily won the 2011 Associated Collegiate Press Newspaper Pacemaker award. Announced Saturday at the ACP’s annual convention, the Daily is one of five four-year daily newspapers to be honored.

The 2011 Pacemaker is based on submitted issues from the 2010-11 academic year. The Daily was named a finalist for the award in August – nine other papers were on that list. The Daily last won the Pacemaker award in 2009.

Individual awards:

The Daily received second place in Sports Story of the Year. Sources: Golf coach didn’t get a shot by Trevor Born and Nate Gotlieb was published Dec. 1, 2010. The report preceded a lawsuit filed by the University of Minnesota’s former women’s head golf coach Katie Brenny against then-Director of Golf John Harris. The suit accuses Harris of discrimination.

The Daily’s Day in the Life 2011 multimedia feature placed third in the Photo Slideshow category. Day in the Life is an annual feature for which the multimedia department spends 24 hours photographing life on and around the University of Minnesota campus. It runs online and as a special print section.
