Minnesota women’s cross country team – paced by junior Emily Brown’s 6-kilometer school record of 20 minutes, 37.2 seconds – took sixth place in the Pre-NCAA meet on Saturday in Terre Haute, Ind.
Brown took 13th place individually, Ladia Albertson-Junkans finished 17th, and Lauren Williams was 28th.
The 10th-ranked Gophers competed in the Blue Race for the meet, in which Stanford won the team title. Michigan took first in the White Race.
Minnesota had 223 team points, 14 behind North Carolina State and Brigham Young, which tied for fourth. Stanford had 86 points.
The race was run on the same course where the NCAA Championships will be Nov. 21.
Men take second
Minnesota men’s cross country team finished second at the Jim Drews Invitational on Saturday in West Salem, Wis. The 20th-ranked Gophers had 52 points, just six behind the champions, No. 2 Wisconsin.
Three Minnesota runners finished in the individual top 10. Senior Ryan Malmin led the way with a seventh-place finish at 24:27.6. Junior Antonio Vega, running in his first race of the season after missing time with a back injury, came in eighth. Freshman Chris Rombough finished 10th.
Saturday was also senior Erik Grumstrup’s first race back from injury. He finished 21st.
Mitchell headlines intrasquad meet
Senior Minnesota men’s swimmer Adam Mitchell won all three of his individual events, leading his Maroon squad to a 178-120 victory over the Gold team in Friday’s intrasquad scrimmage at the University Aquatic Center.
Mitchell took first place in the 100- and 200-yard backstroke events, and also won the 200 individual medley.
