Olympic silver medallist and University of Minnesota alumna Kelly Catlin died Friday at age 23. 

Catlin was found dead in her home in California, according to a letter sent to VeloNews by her father. He said she died by suicide.

“She’s the one person I had shared almost [my] entire life with, and I shall miss her terribly,” Catlin’s brother, Colin Catlin, wrote on Facebook Friday. 

Catlin graduated with bachelor’s degrees in biomedical engineering and Chinese from the University in 2018. She was pursuing a master’s degree in computational and mathematical engineering at Stanford University.

Catlin was born in St. Paul, and won the silver medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics as part of the U.S. women’s pursuit team.

“The entire cycling community is mourning this immense loss. We are offering continuous support to Kelly’s teammates, coaches and staff,” wrote USA Cycling President Rob DeMartini in a public statement.
