Researchers from the University of Minnesota Tourism Center say that new data will help policymakers to set a school start date, reported the Associated Press.
Studies from the center examined family travel patterns when school was set to start before Labor Day.
Results from their study found that family trips that included overnight travel between May and September decreased by 30 percent.
The study also found that family travel for two nights or more decreased by 50 percent in August and September.
The center’s research utilized the American Time Use Survey and looked at family travel in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan and Virginia.
