Minnesota’s rowing team will compete at the Head of The Charles regatta in Cambridge, Mass., on Saturday. The Gophers will compete in the championship eight race, the two-day event’s final race.

In the team’s last race – the Head of the Rock regatta Oct. 9 in Rockford, Ill. – Minnesota finished second in the open eight race, just less than 10 seconds behind first-place Wisconsin.

Preseason gymnastics rankings

Minnesota’s men’s gymnastics team is ranked eighth in the preseason coaches’ poll. This is the third straight season that the Gophers enter the season ranked eighth.

Oklahoma is ranked first. Illinois and Ohio State are tied for the No. 2 spot, while Penn State, Michigan and Iowa are the other Big Ten schools ranked in the poll.

Minnesota opens its season Nov. 13 with the alumni meet at the Sports Pavilion.

Golf 18th

In Golfweek magazine’s ranking of collegiate golf programs over the past six years, Minnesota’s men’s golf team was rated 18th.

The Gophers are the top-rated team north of the Mason-Dixon Line. They are also the only Big Ten team in the rankings.

Georgia Tech is ranked first on the list. The rankings were compiled by tabulating the cumulative results of the Golfweek/Sagarin performance index rankings over the past six seasons.
