Minnesota’s men’s swimming and diving team downed No. 22 North Carolina 238-132 over a two-day span, Friday and Saturday in Chapel Hill, N.C.
The sixth-ranked Gophers won seven of the 10 events Saturday to cruise to victory.
Minnesota, now 3-0, won all five relays during the two-day competition and is unbeaten in relay competition thus far this season.
Senior Mario Delac, sophomore Evan Bernier, freshman Ray Betuzzi and senior Drew Knoechel all won individual events for the Gophers Friday.
The Gophers are off next weekend, but return to competition in two weeks when they host the Minnesota Invitational at the University Aquatic Center Nov. 17 to Nov. 19.
Men’s cross country
Five members of Minnesota’s men’s cross country competed at the St. John’s Fall Finale in Collegeville, Minn., on Friday.
Senior Mike Van Beusekom was the Gophers’ top finisher, placing third on the eight-kilometer course in a time of 25:41.
Three Minnesota runners finished consecutively behind Van Beusekom. Sophomore Seijen Takamura finished fourth, junior Eddie Kibira was fifth and junior Todd Johnson placed sixth.
The 14th-ranked Gophers host the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships next Saturday in Falcon Heights.
Women also in action
Minnesota’s women’s swimming and diving team also traveled to Chapel Hill over the weekend, but had mixed results.
The Gophers lost their dual against the Tar Heels on Friday, 212-158 but bounced back Saturday with a 278-98 victory over Richmond.
For the weekend, sophomore Yuen Kobayashi won three events for Minnesota. Kobayashi won the 500-yard freestyle against the Spiders with a time of 4:50.48. Sophomore Christine Jennings came in second in 4:54.73.
Kobayashi also won the 200-yard freestyle and 1000-yard freestyle against North Carolina in the previous day’s dual meet.
