Former President Bill Clinton will visit McNamara Alumni Center at the University of Minnesota on Tuesday to campaign for President Barack Obama.

A recent poll found a narrower than expected margin between Obama and Republican presidential candidate Gov. Mitt Romney. The Star Tribune poll, released Sunday, found Obama has a slim, three-point lead in Minnesota.

Minnesota hasn’t voted for a Republican president since 1972.

The Associated Press reported that Romney or his running mate Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., might stop in Minnesota this week because of the narrow margin.

Students for Obama President Laura Pratt said the Clinton event will be open to the public and will begin at 10:45 a.m. Doors open at 9:30 a.m., and the event will conclude by about 11:30 a.m.

Clinton, who served as president from 1993 to 2001, will head to Duluth, Minn., for another event after visiting campus Tuesday, according to the Obama campaign.

In addition to Minnesota, Clinton will campaign this week in Iowa, Colorado, Ohio, Virginia, New Hampshire and Wisconsin.

Public Policy Polling found Obama leading Romney 53-43 in Minnesota in early October.
