Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week and junior libero Christine Tan have become interchangeable words these days. Tan racked up her third consecutive honor this week, the first player in the history of the conference to achieve a weekly honor three weeks in a row. The award comes after a weekend where Tan proved her dominance, racking up 36 digs against Illinois, the second-best mark in school history. And after receiving 33 serves perfectly over the weekend, Tan is currently in the midst of streak of 100 straight receptions without an error. -Paul J. Cordes Gophers get bump in polls The Minnesota volleyball team recaptured its No. 12 ranking from a week ago in the CSTV/AVCA top 25 poll this week. The Gophers unexpectedly dropped to 13th after two critical Big Ten wins a week ago, as Colorado State moved into the 12th spot. But the two teams continued the top 25 merry-go-round as Minnesota holds the 12th spot once more and the Rams fell to 13th. The Big Ten remains tied with the Pac-10 conference for the most teams in the top 25. Both boast six nationally ranked teams. -Paul J. Cordes Decker leads the nation After tying a school record with 13 catches for 190 yards, junior receiver Eric Decker leads the nation in receiving. Through six games he has 696 receiving yards, an average of 116 per game. Decker faced double and triple-coverage for most of Minnesota’s 16-7 win over Indiana on Saturday, but still had 175 receiving yards through three quarters. On a play in the fourth quarter, he took a knee to the helmet and woozily walked off the field. He returned to the game but didn’t catch another pass. After setting the school record for catches in a season (67) last year, Decker is on pace for 1,392 yards, which would break Ron Johnson’s team-record of 1,125 yards in 2000. -Trevor Born
