Carol Strohecker has been named the new dean of the University of Minnesota’ College of Design.
On Tuesday, the University announced — pending Board of Regents approval in May — that Strohecker’s appointment will be effective Aug. 31.
The College of Design has been searching for a new dean since May 2016, after former dean Thomas Fisher stepped down to take the position as Director of the Minnesota Design Center.
Before accepting the offer, Strohecker served as the vice provost for academic affairs at the Rhode Island School of Design for three years.
“The work that everyone at the College has done together has created a truly unique and attractive place — a place where a variety of disciplines, students, faculty, and staff can thrive,” Strohecker said in a press release.
Strohecker has a doctorate in media arts and sciences and a master’s degree in visual studies from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
