It’s that time of year. The time of year, of course, to start thinking about your summer music plans. Sure we all dream great dreams of road trips to Bonnaroo, Coachella or Pitchfork but let’s face it: that piggy bank has been emptied more than a few times to foot a night on the town hasn’t it? Luckily, our city ain’t so shabby when it comes to putting on a consistently fun (and affordable granted you buy those tickets fast) summer show: Rock the Garden. If you’re unfamiliar, Rock the Garden is an annual outdoor concert put on by the Walker Art Center and 89.3 the Current. It’s usually headlined by a national band (in the past this has included The Decemberists, MGMT and Andrew Bird) and then supplemented by three openers, generally a mix of national and local groups. This year Rock the Garden will fall on June 18. Walker curator Philip Bither will announce the lineup for the show on-air during Mary Lucia’s show on April 19. Got it? April 19. Tune into 89.3 The Current from 4-6 p.m. to find out if this year’s lineup will rival last year’s. In the meantime, for those oblivious to the fun-explosion that is Rock the Garden, have a look at one of my personal favorite moments in recent years of the production: Shara Worden and Becky Stark covering Heart’s classic hit “Crazy On You” with The Decemberists in 2009.
