The Minnesota womenâÄôs cross country teamâÄôs intrasquad meet ended with coach Gary WilsonâÄôs Gold team beating his assistantsâÄô Maroon team for the fourth-straight year âÄî this time by a score of 32-24. Competing for the Maroon team, junior Megan Duwell took the individual medalist honors with a first-place finish in 18:03. But the Gold team posted the next three finishes to claim the team prize âÄî a Goldy Gopher lamp. Meanwhile, the Maroon team took home Charley the Fish âÄî a brittle mounted fish that garnered more attention after the meet than its first-prize counterpart. âÄúIt was a typical intrasquad [meet]. The thing I liked was that weâÄôre not in great shape yet, which is going to bode well for the end of the month, then Big Tens and then down the line,âÄù Wilson said. âÄúYou could tell we still have some work to do, but you want to have work to do.âÄù Entering his 24th year as the Gophers coach, Wilson claims to be somewhere near the 22-2 mark in the annual instrasquad meet, which serves as a warm-up for the fall season . Season expectations are high for Minnesota as the team begins its defense of last yearâÄôs Big Ten title.
