Minnesota defeated St. Cloud State 3-0 at home on Friday to finish a 2-0 series sweep. Senior forward Dani Cameranesi added to an already-productive weekend an scored twice in the win.
The Gophers spent much of the game attacking. St. Cloud had a difficult time maintaining possession of the puck and Minnesota dominated in shots to finish the game with 39.
Senior forward Kate Schipper scored 11 minutes into the first period to put Minnesota on the board. Junior forward Cara Piazza set up the goal.
The Gophers and Huskies played to a scoreless second period, but Cameranesi extended Minnesota’s lead early in the third period with a goal assisted by senior defender Kelsey Cline and sophomore forward Sarah Potomak.
Minnesota added another goal late in the third to make the score 3-0. Potomak and freshman defender Patti Marshall assisted Cameranesi for her second goal of the night.
St. Cloud only tallied nine shots on goal in the game and the shutout was the second of the season and sixth of her career for redshirt junior goaltender Sidney Peters.
The Gophers earned a home sweep over the Huskies and stay at Ridder Arena next weekend for a tilt against Minnesota State-Mankato.
