The Dalai Lama, the Tibetan Buddhist leader, will come to the University of Minnesota on May 8 for a two-day visit.
The UniversityâÄôs Center for Spirituality and Healing and the Tibetan American Foundation of Minnesota will host three events titled âÄúOne Heart, One Mind, One UniverseâÄù featuring the Dali Lama.
The Minnesota Tibetan community, which is the second largest population of Tibetans in the United States, requested the Dali LamaâÄôs appearance.
TAFM offered to co-host his visit to with the Center for Spirituality and Healing which is launching a Tibetan Healing Initiative.
âÄúThis is not the first time that we have collaborated with the University,âÄù said Tsewang Chokden , a spokesperson for TAFM. The Center is strongly involved with Tibetan medicine and culture, he added.
The theme for the event was chosen while working closely with the Dalai LamaâÄôs home organization, the Office of Tibet , said Tony Baisley, spokesman for the Center. âÄúThe title encapsulates his work and how he wanted to present his message.âÄù
The event is scheduled to take place at Mariucci Arena.
Nearly 9,000 tickets for the event will go on sale October 18, and will be sold through the Northrop ticket office. Prices range from $15 to $500 depending on the specific event and seating arrangements.
The Dalai Lama made his last appearance in the Twin Cities in 2001.
