The Minnesota women’s basketball team plays host to No. 20/17 Ohio State tonight in the re-match from the Gophers shocking 59-56 road win against the Buckeyes on Jan. 15.
Minnesota is coming off a buzzer-beating win over Michigan on the road, as junior guard Brittany McCoy banked in a long 3-pointer to seal the victory with 1.9 seconds remaining.
The Gophers will need all the momentum they can get tonight to beat Ohio State for the second time this season.
Ohio State is one of three teams above Minnesota in the Big Ten standings, and a home win tonight could prove vital in padding the Gophers NCAA Tournament resume and raising the tournament seeding.
Minnesota has played well this season against teams ranked higher in the conference, and coach Pam Borton continues to emphasize that it hasn’t even played it best basketball yet.
If the Gophers improve their field-goal percentage, get senior guard Emily Fox back on track offensively and rebound extremely hard, they could be a tough team to beat come tournament time.
The Buckeyes are currently the only ranked team in the Big Ten standings, and accoring to team sources this is mainly due to how conference teams have beaten up on each other this season.
