The building housing Espresso Royale and Al’s Breakfast will soon be under new ownership.
There will be no changes to how either business operates though, according to business owners. Both eateries have a business license through April 2013.
Longtime building owner Richard Schaak said he is selling all of his property now that he’s older. He said the deal for the 14th Avenue Southeast property is close to being finalized.
The reported buyer is from Green Mill Restaurants Inc., said Dinkytown Business Association President Skott Johnson.
Schaak, 75, and his wife Patricia have owned the two properties for more than 20 years. Al’s Breakfast has been on campus since 1950.
Doug Grina, co-owner of Al’s Breakfast, said Schaak kept him informed about what he planned to do with the building. Schaak had been talking about selling for a long time, he said.
Espresso Royale owner Dan Zielske said he received a letter from Schaak that the building had been sold.
Grina said he is more worried about the rising cost of rent than losing his business. Espresso Royale has a lease and won’t be going anywhere, Zielske said.
