.Gonzalez takes plea agreement
The March 31 trial date for career-criminal Daniel Gonzalez has been canceled, according to court documents.
After pleading not guilty at the end of January to all charges stemming from three Hennepin County criminal cases, Gonzalez, 39, accepted a plea agreement Thursday afternoon.
Gonzalez pleaded guilty to four of the five charges against him: receiving stolen property, drunken driving and two counts of auto theft.
The fifth charge, fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, was dismissed.
Gonzalez was sentenced to 270 days at the Hennepin County Workhouse in Plymouth.
He was given credit for 67 days already served.
Gonzalez was also sentenced to three years probation, which began Thursday at his sentencing.
Gonzalez was arrested in January after University senior Sergei Dmitriev attempted to buy back his own stolen laptop from Gonzalez, who posted the computer on Craigslist.
Dmitriev had friends call police after he confirmed the computer was his. Gonzalez was arrested the next day at work.
No pleas from McCullough or Overlie
University students Brandon Overlie, 22, and Michael McCullough, 21, chose not to enter plea agreements during their hearings on Monday, Judicial Clerk Jessica Vosejpka said.
Their trial for the death of 19-year-old former student Kyle Sharbonno is still scheduled to begin May 19 in Hennepin County District Court.
The two are charged with giving alcohol to a minor, which resulted in his death.
Sharbonno fell from the Oak Street parking ramp on April 1, 2007, after attending a party hosted by McCullough and Overlie.
Another hearing in the case is set for April 10, Vosejpka said.
