MINNEOTA, Minn. (AP) âÄî Everything is on the table as a small town in southwestern Minnesota considers cutting its budget, including eliminating its police department. Officials in Minneota (Min-ee-oh’-tuh) say they need to find sustainable budget cuts to cope with reductions in state aid. The town lost $30,000 in aid in Decmeber and is bracing for another $170,000 in cuts during the next two years. Minneota Mayor Paul Larson says the City Council council is looking for feedback on proposed budget cuts. One proposal calls for cutting the two-person Police Department and contracting with the sheriff’s office. Police Chief Eric Johnson says the town would lose a lot if it cuts the department.
