The FBI is conducting a fraud investigation on the University of Minnesota athletics ticket office.
Former Gophers Assistant Athletics Director, Sales and Service Brent Holck was fired in February after an internal audit discovered some tickets to Gophers athletics events were reported as unused even when they were distributed.
The audit found these incidents date back to 2011, said Athletics Director Mark Coyle in a press release.
Findings from the audit were given to the FBI’s Minneapolis office for further investigation.
“Based on the investigation, we determined that the matter should be referred to an outside entity with capabilities beyond that of the University’s auditor,” Coyle said.
The statement claims the activities did not financially impact Gophers fans.
The news is just now being reported due to the complexity of the situation and involvement FBI, with the University not wanting to compromise the investigation, said University spokesperson Evan Lapiska.
The University appointed Ryan Dillon as Holck’s replacement last week, said a University spokesperson.
