Minneapolis Police are still looking for suspects in the death of Joseph Sodd III, 20, who was killed in Cedar-Riverside in June. At a Thursday news conference, in an effort to spur a new wave of information from possible witnesses, Minneapolis police revealed a partnership with Crime Stoppers to offer up to $1,000 to anyone willing to bring details relating to the crime. Crime Stoppers is a non-profit that offers reward money for assistance with police cases. According to a Minneapolis police news release, âÄúInvestigators believe there are still members of the community that have information about this case.âÄù Lt. Rick Zimmerman of the Minneapolis Police Homicide Unit said Sodd, a Minneapolis resident and student at an out-of-state art school, was home during the summer break. After leaving a bar with friends, Sodd walked toward his vehicle, which was parked near the intersection of 19th Avenue South and Seventh Street South. Sodd was attacked and killed by an unknown assailant who inflicted a âÄúsharp force injury.âÄù It is here that details get hazy. Police have spent hundreds of hours following leads and gathering information related to the crime, but have not yet arrested any suspects, Zimmerman said. âÄúWe have some leads, but not enough at this point to put someone in jail. ThatâÄôs why we need the publicâÄôs help,âÄù he said. The motive and circumstances surrounding the incident are unknown. The investigation is covering all possibilities, including robbery, but due to insufficient information, nothing is concrete, Zimmerman said. He also said, at the time of the killing, multiple robberies were committed in the area; some lead to arrests, some did not. Police would not disclose if any of these cases were connected to SoddâÄôs death. âÄú[Police] are asking anyone with information, no matter how small or insignificant, to please come forward and talk with investigators,âÄù the release stated.
