Dinkytown’s One Two Three Sushi is permanently closing after Tuesday, according to restaurant management.
The owners decided to close down the Dinkytown location on 14th Ave. SE. to focus on their other locations, spokesperson Jacqueline Hanson said. The restaurant also has three locations in downtown Minneapolis and one in St. Paul.
The owners are exploring their Masu Express concept, which is offered at Whole Foods in Uptown and Woodbury, as well as a future Chicago location, Hanson said.
Randal Gast, president of the Dinkytown Business Alliance, said he noticed how quiet the restaurant was and wondered how attractive sushi was to college students.
“The restaurant business by default is difficult, but [One Two Three Sushi] has a narrow, niche market,” Gast said.
One Two Three Sushi opened its Dinkytown location in 2013 as an experimental venture that expanded its brand past supermarket-sold sushi meals.
The closure of the Japanese restaurant is the second this week – Jersey Mike’s Subs closed Monday after three years in business. Five longtime neighborhood businesses will be evicted from their building on Wednesday.
