South African police replaced the lead investigator in the case against Oscar Pistorius after finding the officer faced seven charges of attempted murder himself, news sources reported.
Hilton Botha is charged with opening fire on a minibus in October 2011, Al Jazeera reported. Prosecutors in the Pistorius case said they were unaware of the charges against Botha when they designated him lead investigator.
Prosectors allege Pistorius murdered his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, last week, the New York Times reported. It is still unclear whether Pistorius will be held in jail until his trial.
The charges against Botha were initially dropped, the Washington Post reported. They were reinstated early February.
