One of Michelle Obama’s favorite designers, Thakoon, has just debuted his Target Go! International line—it was supposed to hit the stores yesterday, but I’m sure the Minneapolis Targets had it out earlier. Looking at the preview pictures online, I was really excited about the bright floral prints and "hippie girl goes to the Hamptons" vibe, but upon examining the collection at my local Target (Grand Forks, ND), I was a bit let down. I own something from basically all Go! International collections starting with the very first, Luella Bartley back in 2006, and though the Thakoon collection’s quality is pretty good, the fits are a bit off. (I fit into an XS AND a L, go figure.) However, there’s a gorgeous floral print spring coat in purples, blacks, and blues that I love ($44.99) and some cute cardigans ($32.99) and shorts for Spring Break.
Also arriving at Target is the Hayden-Harnett bag line, a collection of faux-leather totes, clutches, and purses from spendy bag hawkers Hayden-Harnett. It’s better than the previous collection, Anya Hindmarch, but once again, the shift from internet preview to actual store is underwhelming. However, if you need a cute, cheap bag to lug around from Chino Latino to Southdale, take a look.
Much better is the Limited Edition collection, concocted by Target’s in-house designers stationed in Minneapolis. My mom (!!!!) picked out a cute black bejeweled shift that had me impressed with its quality ($39.99) and my BFF Ali got a red strapless number which she paired with another Target offering, a cropped Mossimo black brocade jacket on sale for $15. Perfect for New Years.
As for me, my Target fashion quest ended in no Thakoon (though I will probably purchase some stuff when it goes on clearance), but instead in a cute oversized wrap cardigan that I can wear upside down, for the very low and budget-appropriate price of $15. And a season of "Sex and the City" for $8.99. (They’re usually $25!)
Happy New Year!
