Gophers middle-distance runner David Pachuta failed to qualify for the final of the 800-meter run at the U.S. Olympic trials in Eugene, Ore., after finishing ninth overall in Saturday's semifinal.
The senior held his own in fourth or fifth place most of the race. But in the last 100 meters, Pachuta fell behind as the competition made the final push. He crossed the line in seventh place with a time of 1:46.83.
Former Gophers women's team runner Heather Kampf made the 800 final. She placed fourth in her heat, which wasn't good enough to qualify automatically. However, her time of 2:02.59 was one of the two next fastest times.
In Monday's final, Kampf will have to place in the top-three and meet the Olympic "A" standard to make the Olympic team.
