Punxsutawney Phil, Pennsylvania’s famous groundhog, emerged on Gobbler’s Knob Thursday and saw his shadow, thus predicting six more weeks of winter, the Associated Press reported.
The annual Groundhog’s Day tradition attracted more than 15,000 people, by the organizer’s estimates, on a warmer-than-average February day.
Winter weather across the country has been unseasonably warm this year, with the state’s temperature expected to hover in the mid-40s. Snow across the East and and Midwest has also been sparse.
Punxsutawney Phil has seen his shadow 100 times since 1886, and hasn’t seen it only 16 times.
