As temperatures continue to drop, the University of Minnesota has further postponed classes and has shut down the campus until later in the week.
According to an email from the Office of the President sent Tuesday afternoon, campus will be closed from 5 p.m. Tuesday to noon on Thursday due to extreme cold. This closure applies to all students and any employees that are not “essential” according to an emailed statement from the University.
Minnesota state statutes say that essential employees “include any individual in law enforcement, nursing, professional and supervisory units, irrespective of severance and no other employees.”
Students will return to classes starting at or after noon and staff members are expected to report to work at their normal times on Thursday, per the statement.
