Like with any election, there is already some difference between media outlets on how to call the races. CNN and MSNBC have McCain up 16 to 3 in Electoral College votes, while Fox News now has McCain 13 to 3, but the New York Times has yet to call a single race.
With the fallout from the 2000 election, people in the press have become much more cautious about calling races, but even tonight, races are being called with very few precincts reporting.
Keep an eye on the different outlets and how they call the races throughout the night. It will be interesting to see at what point they’re comfortable putting up check marks.
