Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak revealed a new plan for the Interstate 35W bridge collapse on Thursday.
The new proposal includes 13 beams with the names of victims and a wall with writing behind flowing water, which will be illuminated at night. There is also an observation deck that features overlooks of the river bluffs and the bridge.
Original plans called for the memorial to be located at Gold Medal Park. The new proposal moves it to the other side of West River Parkway.
âÄúFrom the start, the Remembrance Garden has been driven by the vision and the values of those most affected by this tragedy,âÄù Rybak said.
âÄúThe Remembrance Garden will provide an enduring way to remember loved ones who were lost in the tragic I-35W bridge collapse,âÄù Gov. Tim Pawlenty said in a written statement. âÄúWith the support of survivors and families of the victims, the new location and design for the permanent memorial will ensure that those lost during this horrible tragedy will not be forgotten.âÄù
