The University of Minnesota Police Department and Minneapolis Police Department responded to reports of assault, theft, robbery and property damage during homecoming week.
UMPD Lieutenant Chuck Miner said the week’s celebrations kept officers on their toes.
“It was a pretty big weekend in regards to alcohol-related crime, and homecoming probably had something to do with that,” Miner said.
Property damage was reported when UMPD officers were dispatched to 516 Delaware St SE on Saturday around 12:16 a.m. Upon arrival, officers found two males holding a broken parking ramp gate arm. The two males were cited for minor consumption of alcohol and are being investigated for the gate damage.
Security officers arrived at a large party of approximately 100 people in the apartment complex on 1022 University Ave SE on Saturday around 12:35 a.m. Security notified residents that the party needed to be shut down. While residents were leaving the party, a group of male suspects entered the apartment and stole property. The suspects left on-foot and were gone when MPD arrived.
An MPD officer responded to a report of an assault on 327 14th Ave SE on Sunday around 1:50 a.m. The victim said he was standing outside when the suspect accused him of talking about him. The suspect then struck the victim, leaving him with a small cut on his temple. The victim refused emergency medical services.
UMPD responded to a reported assault after a combative patient assaulted two security guards at the University of Minnesota Medical Center, East Bank on Sunday at around 8:53 p.m.
A woman reported being robbed at 515 14th Ave SE on Friday around 2:33 a.m. to MPD. The victim had her iPhone and wallet taken by a male suspect. She refused emergency medical service.
MPD officers responded to a reported shooting on 814 Franklin Ave SE on Thursday around 4:27 p.m. The male victim was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center. The suspect was gone when police arrived. Gun shell casing and clothing were collected, and the investigation is ongoing.
