For the second time this season, Gophers women’s golfer Teresa Puga was named Big Ten Conference Golfer of the Week. It is the fourth time in the senior’s career that she has received the weekly award.
This past weekend at the Mountain View Collegiate in Tucson, Arizona, Puga tied for 12th place and in the process led the Gophers to a fifth place finish. The senior from A Coruna, Spain carded rounds of 70-74-74 for a 54-hole total of 218. It was her fifth top-20 finish of the season.
Puga holds nearly every scoring record in programs and recently tied for medalist honors at the 2011 UCF Challenge. Puga carded a total score of 208 at the event and her final round included a six-under-par 66, which tied a record set by Julie Gumlia in 1977.
Puga and the Gophers will return to action on April 4-5 to participate in the Pinehurst Challenge in Pinehurst, North Carolina.
