Film âÄì Bachelor Mother Heights Theater 3951 Central Ave. N.E., Mpls 7:30 p.m. $8 This 1939 film features vintage starlet Ginger Rogers in one of her most well-known roles that doesnâÄôt require that song-and-dance mumbo jumbo. âÄúBachelor MotherâÄù is a twisted comedy with a slew of mistaken identities and instances of child abandonment. FRIDAY Music âÄî Rob Zombie Roy Wilkins Auditorium 175 Kellogg Blvd. W., St. Paul 7:30 p.m. $38 I read somewhere Rob Z.’s “Living Dead Girl” is the number one stripper song of all time. The man who brought us such cinematic gems as “House of 1000 Corpses” will play Roy Wilkins tonight, probably with a few strippers in tow. Told through a slew of soliloquies, the play tackles the thin line between professional and personal relationships. Reading âÄì Ted Gioia Magers & Quinn Booksellers 3038 Hennepin Ave. S., Mpls 7 p.m. Free A&E knows that youâÄôve been putting off your literary event requirement for your English class. Ted GioiaâÄôs reading from his post-ironic book âÄúThe Birth (and Death) of the CoolâÄù is the perfect opportunity to get in touch with your inner âÄúover itâÄù self. Event âÄì Midwest Mountaineering Outdoor Adventure Expo Midwest Mountaineering 309 Cedar Ave. S., Mpls 9 a.m. Free DonâÄôt act like you can resist a deal on winter gloves. Even if you arenâÄôt the hunting, fishing, camping type, the expoâÄôs demos and sales might make your winter less frostbitten. Music âÄì A Sunny Day in Glasgow Eclipse Records 1922 University Ave. W., St. Paul 7 p.m. Free The voices of Philadelphia’s A Sunny Day In GlasgowâÄôs twin lead singers only lend their shoegazey pop music an extra air of ethereality. The bandâÄôs static reverb often borders on cute, and can satisfy any sweet tooth. SUNDAY Music âÄî Mason Jennings First Avenue 701 1st Ave. N., Mpls. 6 p.m. $20 Local golden boy Mason Jennings returns to the Cities to promote his latest album, “Blood of Man.” Do we think he’s the next Cat Stevens, as major fans have speculated? No. But we do support dudes from Duluth. Art âÄì From Towers To Teakettles: Michael Graves Architecture and Design Minneapolis Institute of Arts 2400 3rd Ave. S., Mpls The recent Minneapolis Institute of the Arts exhibit celebrates the work that esteemed designer Michael Graves has done for Target Corp. over the past ten years, focusing on designs that are always sleek and elegant. CULTURE TO CONSUME Read This: Sarah Palin’s memoir “Going Rogue” came out this week. Get ready for a Sarah barrage, by paging through. We can only imagine the homegrown wisdom Ms. Palin is hawking. I wonder how she feels about her almost-son-in-law Levi’s 90 percent full-frontal nude shoot for “Playgirl,” which comes out in January. Drink This: Our overseas pal recommended Planter’s Punch and though it’s a “summer” cocktail, we’ll take any excuse to make a big vat of booze. 2 oz. Dark Rum 2 oz. Orange Juice 2 oz. Pineapple Juice 1/2 oz. Lime Juice Dash Grenadine Orange Slice & Cherry for garnish Shake it all up and sip with caution âÄî itâÄôs said to be potent. Listen to This: Lady Gaga and Beyoncé teamed up and the world didn’t explode from the fabulousness? Nope, but it did result in “Telephone,” from Gaga’s upcoming “The Fame: Monster,” and in a new (sort of) improved version of B’s “Video Phone.” They’re doing two videos together too. Think about all the crazy avant-garde fashion that will be involved and try not to salivate. Eat This: Burgers may be over as the new foodie trend, given the rush of meat-centric restaurants recently opening, but classics should never be ex-nayed from your gastro list. We recommend those of the much-lauded Band Box Diner. (729 10th St. S., Mpls.) Click This: Vita.mnâÄôs Christian wrote a thoughtful essay about his qualms over the new MN AIDS ProjectâÄôs beefcake-heavy campaign and has garnered nationwide attention from a variety of outlets for it. Read the discussion on Vita.mnâÄôs site and then check out further opinions on blog Queerty, Watch This: Carey Mulligan is getting serious âÄúIt GirlâÄù and Oscar buzz for her portrayal of 16-year-old Jenny, a Brit student whoâÄôs wooed by the much older and ultra-suave Peter Sarsgaard in âÄúAn Education.âÄù Catch it at the Uptown Theatre this weekend, unless itâÄôs moved to the Edina. Either way, it looks to be a pitch-perfect rendition of the swinging âÄô60s.
