The Big Ten announced its postseason baseball honors for the 2011-12 season Tuesday, and Gophers starting pitcher TJ Oakes was named a first team All-Big Ten selection.
Oakes, a junior, held a 7-3 record and a 2.31 earned run average through 14 starts this season. He led the Big Ten in strikeouts looking (27), ranked third in overall strikeouts (78), and ranked fourth in ERA and innings pitched (97.1). Oakes was also a third-team selection his freshman and sophomore seasons.
Catcher Matt Halloran and outfielder Andy Henkemeyer received third team All-Big Ten honors. Freshman shortstop Michael Handel and relief pitcher Ben Meyer were also named to the All-Big Ten Freshman Team.
The Gophers ended their season Saturday in an 8-3 win over Illinois. They finished 29-27 (11-13 Big Ten) and missed the Big Ten tournament despite being tied for sixth with Ohio State and Illinois.
