The No. 48 Gophers men’s tennis team won its fifth straight match Friday, upsetting No. 39 Drake 5-2 in Rochester, Minn.
With a revised singles lineup, Minnesota won close matches at No. 1, 3 and 5 singles and also won at No. 6 singles.
The Gophers (6-3) also won the doubles point by claiming all three doubles matches. The 50th-ranked tandem of Rok Bonin and Julian Dehn won 8-4 at No. 1 singles to improve to 8-0 on the season.
Bonin rallied for a 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (5) win at No. 1 singles as he played in place of Phillip Arndt.
Arndt played at No. 2 singles and lost his fourth consecutive match, falling 6-1, 7-6 (0).
No. 112 Leandro Toledo won 7-6 (2), 6-3 at third singles — his fifth straight win. Julian Dehn won 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 at fifth singles after a disappointing showing last week at fourth singles. Mathieu Froment won 6-2, 6-4 at sixth singles to bounce back from two consecutive losses.
The Gophers play at No. 8 California and No. 56 Cal Poly on March 15 and 17 before returning home for a March 23 conference match with Michigan State.
