ROCHESTER, Minn. (AP) âÄî The Guardian Angels national crime-fighting group could put its beret-wearing patrols on the streets of Rochester by this summer. Local organizer Mike LaPlante says the group would focus on patrolling neighborhoods having problems with drugs, gangs or burglaries. Guardian Angels volunteers wear red berets and are trained in the martial arts, CPR, and conflict resolution. LaPlante says the training takes around 13 weeks. The local chapter is now looking for volunteers. Rochester Police Chief Roger Peterson says the group could be helpful, depending on the quality of its people. Good volunteers could be hard to find in Rochester, since police say it’s already difficult to find motivated neighborhood watch block captains. ___ On the Net: The Alliance of Guardian Angeles: http://www.guardianangels.org/ ___ Information from: Post-Bulletin, http://www.postbulletin.com
