Aided by outspoken Vikings punter Chris Kluwe, Minnesotans United for All Families made a final push Tuesday to get voters to the polls to defeat the marriage amendment that would constitutionally define marriage as between one man and one woman.
Kluwe, who has become an outspoken advocate of same-sex marriage, joined volunteers to walk around a quiet University of Minnesota campus shortly after 11 a.m.
Kluwe said he is campaigning Tuesday “just to help make one final push to hopefully convince people to vote no.”
Applied economics freshman John-Paul Dees said he was surprised to see Kluwe on campus and thanked him for his advocacy work.
“We really need public figures to look up to and he’s perfect for that,” Dees said.
Throughout the day, MN United is also sending volunteers to dorms and apartments, speaking to classes, and has chartered buses to bring students from Bailey and Middlebrook halls to the polls.
Campaigns are not allowed within 100 feet of polling places, so MN United has booths with “I Voted No” stickers 100 feet away. It is basing efforts in the Commons Hotel and its Dinkytown office for the day.
