Crime on and near the University of Minnesota campus was scarce over the weekend.
A University student was robbed at gunpoint, and a man was arrested for trespassing in Walter Library. A member of the rowing team was also robbed in Prospect Park over the weekend.
Various hit-and-runs were reported near campus, but overall crime was minimal.
Trespasser arrested at library
The University Police Department arrested a man for trespassing on Friday, according to a police report.
The man was cited for violating an existing ban from the East Bank just before 6 p.m. at Walter Library.
UMPD Deputy Chief Chuck Miner said this was the man’s fifth encounter with campus police since Nov. 1.
The suspect called the University’s Security Monitor Program to escort him from the West Bank to the library, Miner said.
The security guard recognized the suspect because of the ban against him, Miner said, and he was arrested and charged with trespassing.
A Carlson School of Management staff member reported the suspect trespassing in Hanson Hall to police on Tuesday, Miner said. The suspect was escorted out of the building and off campus again, Miner said.
The man is now banned from all University campuses, Miner said.
“He is not thinking logically,” Miner said of the man.
Student robbed at gunpoint
A University student was robbed at gunpoint while on his way home from a Gophers hockey game at Mariucci Arena Saturday night, according to a Minneapolis police report.
“It felt like a finger at first,” said biology junior Alec Scollard, “but it was actually the barrel of a gun.”
He said he was in Prospect Park when a man approached him from behind.
When the suspect demanded that Scollard give him everything he had, a woman nearby called the cops, Scollard said.
The man took off after he handed over all the cash he had and his cellphone.
The man was later arrested and charged for aggravated robbery, then booked at the Hennepin County Jail Saturday night, according to the police report.
Rowing team member robbed
A sophomore on the rowing team, Anna Greene, was robbed Saturday night in Prospect Park, according to a police report.
Greene was robbed by 15 to 20 women and was lying on the ground when police arrived, the report said.
Minneapolis Police Department Public Information Officer John Elder said the department was still investigating the incident, and Greene declined to comment.
