Washington Avenue Bridge will close to vehicle traffic Friday at 10 p.m. Central Corridor Light Rail Transit will move vehicle traffic from the north side of the bridge to the south side over the weekend. The bridge is set to reopen Monday at 5 a.m.
There is no traffic issues expected over the weekend Communications Manager of CCLRT Laura Baenen said. The expected snow on Saturday will also not deter construction she said.
The switch will allow construction to begin on the north side now that the south side of the bridge is complete Baenen said.
Though no other closures will occur, construction will take place this weekend on Pleasant Street, Communications Director at University Services Tim Busse said. Crews will be installing traffic signals on the intersection of Pleasant and Pillsbury, which has been closely patrolled by University police throughout the semester.
“It’s going to stay open, but it’s going to be pinched,” Busse said.
On the north side of Johnston Hall, the University also expects congestion Busse said. A gas line that feeds into Northrop Auditorium will be installed over the weekend to keep the building warm over the winter as construction continues. Busse said that snowfall over the weekend might impede or delay construction, but construction by Johnston and Northrop are expected to be done this weekend.
