The University needs to offer more benefits and options to carpoolers. On the East Bank alone, there are currently 13 or more public parking lots and ramps available to students, not including contract parking.
Of those, there are only two lots (36 and 37) that offer discounted parking for $1.75 to commuters who choose to reduce air pollution and traffic congestion by carpooling.
Furthermore, these two lots only offer discounted prices until noon. After 12 p.m., anyone who enters, regardless of carpool status must pay the full price of $3.25. I think the University needs to give the economic and environmentally-savvy a break by opening other lots for carpoolers and extend the carpool benefits so they last all day.
