The Minnesota softball team has a streak going, and it has nothing to do with wins or losses.
The Gophers’ streak reached eight, that is, consecutive games that have been scrapped, Tuesday after officials postponed the scheduled double-header against Wisconsin-Green Bay.
Minnesota also had double-headers scheduled against Penn State, Iowa and Illinois, all canceled this month.
“There’s nothing we can do about it,” coach Lisa Bernstein said. “It’s not surprising but we want the kids to have a season.”
The postponements and cancellations have affected the Big Ten schedule for other teams, too.
Coaches and Big Ten officials have discussed the possibility of changing the threshold for the number of wins needed for the Big Ten title as a result of the numerous cancellations, Bernstein said.
Minnesota’s next contest, weather permitting, is a two-game set with Purdue on Friday and Saturday at Jane Sage Cowles Stadium.
