As the University of Minnesota preps for the return of fall sports, seven Gophers’ student athletes have tested positive for COVID-19, according to the University’s athletics department.
The athletics department conducted 170 tests in June with seven student athletes from multiple sports showing positive results. Student athletes who have tested positive are self-isolating and in communication with the department’s medicine staff.
Individuals within the athletics department who have had contact with these student athletes have also been asked to self-isolate. Anyone showing positive results will have additional testing and will need to be cleared by a team physician before they can return to team activities.
