The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is renewing temporary protected status for some Somali immigrants in the U.S., the Associated Press reports.

The DHS cited ongoing armed conflict and severe drought in Somalia for extending the protected status to March 2014. It was first issued in 2001.

The Twin Cities has the U.S.'s largest Somali population, according to MinnPost.
