Junior Erik Van Rooyen of the Gophers men’s golf team and sophomore Banchalee Theinthong of the women’s team were both named to the All-Big Ten team on the second team Tuesday.
Van Rooyen emerged as the ace of the Gophers proverbial staff this season. He played in all 10 of the team’s events and averaged a team-low 72.6-stroke average. Van Rooyen had six top-20 finishes and three top-10’s, his season best finish was a tie for third at the LSU Invitational.
Theinthong also played in all 10 regular season events for the Gophers this season and averaged a team-low 75.83 strokes per round. The Bangkok, Thailand, native recorded one top-10 and three top-20 finishes this season.
Both golfers competed at the Big Ten championships in French Lick, Ind., last weekend, Van Rooyen finished seventh and Theinthong finished tied for 20th
