Time’s top hoaxes: Time.com today has a smattering of some of the best April Fools’ Day news hoaxes, both from this year and years past. I won’t give away too many, but some highlights: Obama ordering GM and Chrysler out of NASCAR and The Guardian (UK) going all Twitter. Oh yeah, there’s also this more local gem: Ely, Minn., is making a bid for the 2016 Olympics. Complete with press conference!

On much more serious notes, here are two of today’s top local headlines:

Craigslist killer sentenced: A judge sentenced a man from Savage to life in prison without the chance of parole in the shooting death of a woman he lured to his home with a baby-sitting ad on Craigslist, the Associated Press reports. Michael John Anderson, 20, was sentenced Wednesday in the murder of Katherine Ann Olson, 24, who attended St. Olaf College and, briefly, the University of Minnesota. Family critical of police in Minneapolis shooting: Family of Fong Lee, 19, who was shot and killed in 2006 by Minneapolis officer Jason Andersen, are critical of a Medal of Valor given to Andersen in a case in which they allege a gun was planted on Lee, the Star Tribune reports. Evidence filed in the suit Monday suggests the gun found by Lee’s body had been in police possession for nearly two years before the shooting. Sgt. Jesse Garcia said the department is waiting for the city attorney’s office’s response to the new allegations before the department can comment. Have a great day everyone.
