Despite being the coldest game in TCF Bank Stadium history, Ohio State came out on fire, torching the Gophers with two long scoring drives in the first quarter.
After the teams traded three-and-outs, Ohio State freshman quarterback J.T Barrett found a hole and burst for an 86-yard touchdown run. Six minutes later, Barrett found fellow freshman Jalin Marshall for a 57-yard touchdown passgiving the Buckeyes an early 14-0 lead.
It looked like the game was going to get out of hand early in the second quarter, but an interception by junior Briean Boddy-Calhoun quickly shifted the momentum back to Minnesota.
After the interception the Gophers turned to their workhorse, senior running back David Cobb. On senior day, Cobb single-handedly moved Minnesota down the field finishing the drive with a 5-yard touchdown rush. Cobb has 96 yards and two touchdown so far today.
Boddy-Calhoun bailed out the Gophers again later in the second quarter, forcing fumble after Ohio State had drove the ball the length of the field. Minnesota would recover the fumble in the end zone, keeping the game close.
Minnesota would turn the Ohio State mistake into points, as Cobb tied the game up after his 30-yard touchdown run on third down.
Ohio State would gain back some momentum before halftime as they put together a 57-yard drive, resulting in a 22-yard field goal
The weather has had a noticeable affect on the Gophers passing game, as redshirt sophomore quarterback Mitch Leidner has only thrown for 15 yards.
Minnesota will start the second half with the ball.
